MDR-100-12 FAQ

What is the DAPPRA MDR-100-12?

The DAPPRA MDR-100-12 (SKU: OE89) is a 90W single-output industrial DIN rail power supply in the MDR Series. It provides 12V DC at 7.5A from a universal 85–264VAC input, features a blue plastic housing, fanless natural convection cooling, and a DC OK relay contact for remote status monitoring.

Is this a single-output power supply?

Yes. The MDR-100-12 uses a single DC output configuration, providing one 12V rail at up to 7.5A.

What is the input voltage range of the MDR-100-12?

The MDR-100-12 supports a universal AC input range of 85–264VAC (single phase, 47–63Hz) and a DC input range of 120–370VDC.

Can I connect the MDR-100-12 directly to 380V AC?

No. The MDR-100-12 is a single-phase power supply rated for 85–264VAC. It must not be connected directly to a 380VAC three-phase supply. Follow the input voltage and wiring requirements in the datasheet.

What is the maximum output current of the MDR-100-12?

The MDR-100-12 has a rated output current of 7.5A at 12V, corresponding to 90W rated output power. The current range is 0–7.5A.

Why is the MDR-100-12 rated at 90W instead of 96W?

The "100" in the model name refers to the power class. The 12V model delivers 12V × 7.5A = 90W, while the 24V and 48V models in the MDR-100 series deliver 96W (e.g., 24V × 4A). The 12V model operates at slightly lower total wattage because of the 7.5A current limit chosen for this output voltage.

What is the output voltage adjustment range, and how does it affect 12V devices?

The MDR-100-12 has a 12–15V output adjustment range via the front-panel +V ADJ potentiometer. Because the upper limit (15V) exceeds the nominal 12V, verify that every connected 12V device can tolerate the higher voltage before turning the potentiometer up. Many 12V industrial devices accept 13.8–14.4V, but the specific tolerance must be checked on each device's datasheet.

How do I calculate the required output current for the MDR-100-12?

Use the formula I = P / V, where P is the total load power and V is the output voltage. For a 12V system, divide the total load wattage by 12. Also allow margin for startup current and load variations.

Is the MDR-100-12 DIN rail mountable?

Yes. The MDR-100-12 supports standard TS35/7.5 and TS35/15 DIN rail mounting for installation in electrical panels and control cabinets.

Can the MDR-100-12 be mounted horizontally?

Horizontal mounting is not recommended. The specified orientation is vertical, with input terminals at the bottom and output terminals at the top, to support natural convection cooling.

What protection functions does the MDR-100-12 include?

The MDR-100-12 includes short-circuit protection, overload protection (105–150% of rated output power, using constant-current limiting with automatic recovery), and over-voltage protection (15.6–18V, which shuts down the output and requires re-powering to recover).

What does DC OK mean on the MDR-100-12?

DC OK is a DC output status monitoring function. It indicates whether the power supply output is within its normal operating range, and can be used for remote status monitoring or PLC input.

Can the DC OK relay contact of the MDR-100-12 be connected directly to a PLC input?

Yes, but the wiring depends on the PLC input type. The MDR-100-12 uses a dry relay contact (30V/1A resistive), so it can be wired as a dry contact to a PLC digital input. Ensure the PLC input is configured for a dry contact or provides its own wetting voltage; do not apply external voltage that exceeds 30V or 1A across the contact.

Can the MDR-100-12 supply 7.5A continuously in a control cabinet?

Full 7.5A output is specified within the operating range of −10°C to +60°C, but the available output power derates at the higher end of that range. In a typical control cabinet ambient of 40–50°C, full load is usually achievable; above approximately 50°C, refer to the derating curve. Cabinet ventilation and clearance requirements (40mm top, 20mm bottom, 5mm sides) must also be met.

What certifications does the MDR-100-12 have?

Product documentation lists UL508, TUV BS EN/EN62368-1 and EAC TP TC 004 for the MDR-100-12. Some distributor listings also reference Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations T4; confirm the certificate and model coverage for your destination market before relying on hazardous-location suitability.
